Squares

I've been playing around with square format lately. Here are some shots from a couple nights out on the town over the last two weeks. The split between the two outings is pretty obvious.

The moon has been incredible the last few nights. Combined with the milder weather, it has put me in a backpacking mood. I took this a couple nights ago from my sunroom window.

All the variety, all the charm, all the beauty of life is made up of light and shadow.
- Tolstoy

I love Tolstoy. His insight into humanity is humbling, beautiful, and at times repulsive, but hits home everytime.
This is a short series I put together for a show at the beginning of the summer. It is up at Congress Street Coffee at least through the end of December if you live in Jacktown and want to see it in person.

I was recently downtown taking some architectural photographs for work, and there was a crisp, clear sunset, the kind that you have out west all the time but usually only shows up here in the fall. It produced beautiful light, and I grabbed a few shots of the light's interaction with the buildings, and a couple of fun longer exposure shots.

"The thing that's important to know is that you never know. You're always feeling your way. You never put into a photograph what you get out of it. I never have taken a photograph I've intended; they're always better or worse."

My good friend Leslie and I have been working together to build both of our portfolios (her modeling and my photography). Here are a few photos from our latest shoot a couple of weeks ago; it was inspired by the paintings of Andrew Wyeth.

I'm taking a photography class right now to learn how to print in the darkroom. We have been using resin coated paper for all the assignments and it's been cool and all and I have definitely enjoyed it. BUT. A couple days ago I printed on fiber based paper (Ilford Multigrade IV Matt) for the first time and it blew me away. The depth. The tonality. The subtle contrast. I think I'm in love.
